IN TOWN: White pics

A Milano non nevica tutti gli anni, ma quando succede è sempre qualcosa di magico. Mi piace il silenzio che si crea, nessuno usa la macchina e camminando in centro è bello perdersi in questo silenzio quasi surreale. Cambia anche la luce. Milano, famosa per essere una città grigia e dal ritmo sempre stressante dove tutti corrono di continuo, con la neve diventa una città dalle tinte chiare, nitide, soffici e pulite. Questi sono alcuni scatti che ho fatto da casa mia al parco in Corso Venezia, che io chiamo il Parco di Palestro ma che in realtà si chiama "Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli"... (non chiedermi perché, non lo so neanch'io!)

In Milan it doesn't snow every year, but when it happens is always quite magic. I like the silent because none uses car and walking in the town there is a surreal no-sound-music all around. Then the light changes. Milan, famous for being a gray and stress town where all the people run and run, becomes clean and clear, soft and relaxing. These are some pics I have done from my house to the park in Corso Venezia, that I call Parco of Palestro but its real name is "Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli"... (don't ask me why, I don't know it!)

Vive a Los Angeles, lavora come editor freelance ed è membro del Jane Austen Society of North America (wow!). Il primo libro si intitola "In viaggio con Jane Austen" ed è la storia di una ragazza, nata all'epoca e nella società di Jane Austen, che un giorno si sveglia nel corpo e nella vita di una ragazza del 2009. E così, con i suoi occhi di giovane donna dell'800 cominci a vedere e capire quanto possa essere rude, rozza e a volte troppo veloce la nostra vita oggi, soprattutto se la paragoni allo stile e alla mentalità di quella epoca passata, quando un sorriso, un ballo e la proposta di un ragazzo valevano molto più di 1 milione di sms di oggi! Il secondo libro si intitola "Shopping con Jane Austen" ed è la stessa storia ma opposta: una ragazza di oggi si sveglia nel corpo e nella vita di una ragazza dell'epoca e della società di Jane Austen, ed è veramente divertente vedere come faccia di tutto per sopravvivere alla situazione, cercando di gestirla al meglio. Non perderti poi i capitoli di quando lei va a Bath: quando li stavo leggendo ero in treno e continuavo a ridere da sola, tanto che i miei vicini avranno pensato che fossi pazza!

If you have replied 7 yes on 7 questions (I know, I'm very severe when we talk about Jane Austen :D you MUST read these 2 books, written by Laurie Viera Rigler. She lives in Los Angeles, works as editor freelance and she is member of Jane Austen Society of North America (wow!). The first book, "Rude awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict" is about a girl, born in the Jane Austen century and society, who one day wakes up in the body and in the life of a girl of 2009. So with her '800 eyes you start to see and realize how can be rude, wilde and sometimes too fast our life today, if you compare it with the style and menthality of the past, when a smile, a dance and a proposal of a boy meant much more than one milion of sms today! The second book is "Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict" and is about the opposite situation: a girl of today wakes up in the Jane Austen century and society, and is soooo fun to read about the two ways to live and how the girl survives and manages the situation. Don't miss the pages when she goes to Bath: when I was reading that chapter I was in a train smiling by myself all the time and my neighbours surly thought I was crazy!

FASHION: Love dark-brown

Per anni, durante l'inverno, ho comprato scarpe e stivali solo neri. Ho sempre pensato che fosse il colore più pratico, soprattutto quando piove. Poi però ho cambiato idea quando ho visto (e comprato) questi due modelli di scarpe marrone scuro di Tosca Blu Shoes. Sono perfetti, stanno bene con tutto, sono anche molto comodi e il colore è davvero bello! 

(Ok, i tacchi dei tronchetti sono "giusto un attimo" troppo alti quando curvo con la bici e tengo un pedale sù e uno giù, ma solo in quel momento ;)

For years I bought, during Winter, shoes and boots only in black colour. I always thought that this colour is much more practical and easy to wear, especially when it rains. But I changed mind when I saw (and bought) these 2 shoes in dark-brown colour by Tosca Blu Shoes label. They are simply perfect and comfortable, and the colour is so cool! (Ok, the heels are "just a little" too high when I turn by my bicycle with a pedal up and one down, but only in that instant ;)

FASHION: Golden clutch

E' sempre bello quando ricevi un regalo senza un motivo preciso: la sorpresa è maggiore proprio perché non te lo aspettavi e io ADORO le sorprese, da sempre! Questa è una clutch stupenda che ho ricevuto da Accessorize. E' nera e dorata, molto chic ed elegante, grande il giusto per cellulare-chiavi-visa-gloss. Ricordo la prima volta che entrai in un negozio di Accessorize. Ero a Londra (a Milano non era ancora conosciuto e non aveva negozi), ero in vacanza con delle amiche e mi innamorai subito delle borse e dei cappelli. La scelta era vastissima, tutti colorati, così belli... Ora i negozi di Accessorize sono anche a Milano, e ogni volta che ci vado compro sempre qualcosa ;)

It's always nice when you receive an unexpected present: the surprise is bigger and I LOVE surprises! This is a beautiful clutch I received from Accessorize. It's golden and black, very chic and elegant, big enough for mobile-keys-visa-gloss. I remember the first time I saw an Accessorize's shop. It was in London (in Milan it was still unknown), I was there for holidays with some friends and I remember I felt in love with its bags and hats. There were so many, so nice and colourful... Now you can find Accessorize's shops in Milan too, and every time I go there I always buy something ;)

FOOD: Chinese rose

Oggi ho cucinato il croccante. Lo so, è una ricetta più da periodo natalizio, e lo so, è super calorico e non ideale per gennaio quando siamo tutti a dieta, ma un mio amico mi ha regalato delle rose coltivate da lui senza pesticidi per poterle usare in cucina, così ho fatto un esperimento culinario. Alla solita ricetta base del croccante ho aggiunto, sia nell'impasto che come decorazione finale, alcuni petali di rosa essiccati. Ecco come è venuto. 

PS: mentre cucinavo in cucina c'era un profumo di rosa delizioso!

Today I cooked almond brittle. I know, it's a typical Christmas sweet, and yes, I know it's veeery caloric too, but a friend of mine gave me as a present some organic-no-pesticide rose petals for cooking, so I made a new cooking experiment. I added in the basic recipe of the classic almond brittle and on the top some dried rose's petals. This is the result.

PS: while I was cooking in the kitchen there was a magic a rose scent!

IN TOWN: Yokohama restaurant

Vuoi vedermi FELICE? Invitami a un ristorante giapponese! Sono stata per pranzo al ristorante Yokohama, qui a Milano, con la mia amica Valeria, eravamo le prime clienti perché siamo arrivate molto presto, e il cibo è stato, semplicemente, delizioso! Il mio piatto preferito? Il salmone, condito solo con un po' di salsa di soia, e tempura di verdure. Penso che nella mia famiglia ci siano dei lontani parenti del Nord-Europa (anche se io ho proprio la faccia da italiana doc) perché potrei mangiare salmone-crudo-ogni-giorno. E domani, il bis :)

Do you want to see me HAPPY? Invite me to a japanese restaurant! I have been for lunch to Yokohama restaurant here in Milan with my friend Valeria, we were the first clients because arrived very early, and the food was, simply, delicious! My favourite? Salmon just with Soia sauce, and vegetables tempura. I think there are Nord-Europe forefathers in my family (even if I look very italian-style) because I can eat fresh-salmon-every-day. And tomorrow, again :)

IN TOWN: Snow-trip

Questa domenica sono andata a trovare la mia amica Loredana (a seguire un post sul suo pranzo strepitoso!), che abita a Varese, la città dove vivono anche i miei genitori. Mia mamma mi aveva detto prima che partissi che sabato sera c'era stata una nevicata meravigliosa, mentre qui a Milano aveva solo piovuto (anche se distano solo 50 km, Varese e Milano hanno dei climi così diversi!). Così, quando sono arrivata con la macchina, questo è il paesaggio che ho trovato: magico!

This Sunday I went to my friend Loredana house (and later I'll write a post about the extra-good-lunch), in the country-side of Varese, my family town. It's in the deep north-west of Italy, after Varese starts Switzerland. My mom told me that in the night in Varese there was been an amazing snowfall, while in Milan it was just rain (Varese-Milan is only 50 km but the weather is so different!). So when I arrived by car this is what I saw: simply magic!
